Our Classroom
Reading in Year Three
We encourage children to read as much as possible, from varying genres. Our reading books are usually changed at least once a week on the designated reading day. An adult should listen to us read every night at home as part of our homework.
Other books can be read, please write these down in the reading record to count towards your child’s weekly reading.
We teach Guided Reading every day, where we follow the Ready, Steady, Read compressive scheme. This supports children’s vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summary skills.
Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and embedded in every subject.
Homework in Year Three
In Year 3, we have a variety of different homework for the children to complete.
This may range from spellings to learn, weekly reading challenges, times table booster books or TTRS battles.
Every Friday, spellings will be given out on a sheet. The children will practice these spellings every day in class. You should practice these spellings at home. We will have a spelling test every Friday and we will give the results to you the following week.
The children will regularly take part in a TTRS battle.
This could be Elm vs. Juniper or Year 3 vs other year groups!
These battles will encourage your child to practice their times table skills and rapid recall fluency. If you cannot access your TTRS account, please contact your child’s class teacher.
PE Days in Year Three
Our current PE day is a Tuesday.
PE days could change every half term.
Our set PE days will be posted on the class dojo pages at the beginning of the academic year. Any additional PE coaching sessions throughout the week will be posted on dojo to keep you up to date.
Children need to have the correct PE kits (black and white clothing with sensible shoes) and no football kits should be worn.
