Christian Distinctiveness

Meet our Ethos Team:

The Ethos Team exists to help highlight and embed our school Vision: ‘Teach children how they should live and they will remember it all their lives.’ The Team have a variety of responsibilities, including: setting up the KS2 hall for worship; leading the worship in both Key Stages at particular times throughout the school year; leading the KS2 Church Services at Harvest, Christmas, Easter and in the Summer at the end of year service, as well as helping to evaluate Worship. The Team distribute the weekly Reflection question to each class and staff member, helping to ensure that Collective Worship is at the heart of who we are. In addition, the Team aims to raise the profile of Courageous Advocacy in school, maintaining a strong link with he Food Club at St Michael’s and encouraging all stakeholders to play an active role in supporting the Club. The Team takes an active role in planning, preparing and delivering Christian Values Day in school; it also represents HWR at the LDST Ethos days.

The Team are responsible for our Spirituality Sacks, which contain a variety of prayer activities for the children to explore and enjoy with their families at home. The Team prepare the activities and ensure that the sacks are stocked and ready to be shared with classes on a weekly basis.

We are delighted that we have an enthusiastic group of children on the Team; they are becoming increasingly proficient at showing visitors around school, pointing out all that makes us distinctively Christian and articulating what it means to be a member of a church school and why they are glad to be a part of HWR.

‘Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their lives.’
Proverbs22:6

Worship in School

The children take part in daily worship, as it is a central part of our school day. Parents are invited to attend collective worship at various points in the year. Occasionally, the children will plan and deliver worship themselves, particularly when we attend our local churches for services.

The worship and religious education provided by the school is in accordance with the Church of England Foundation. The foundation is also reflected in the curriculum and the whole life of the school community .

Parents do have the legal right to withdraw their children from Collective Worship and Religious Education, but since the conduct of the school as a whole reflects the Christian ethos, removal of pupils from worship and/or Religious Education cannot insulate pupils from the religious life of the school.

Our Prayer Garden

Our prayer garden is a quiet space where we can sit, chat quietly, reflect or read, especially in the warmer months of the year.
