Our school believes that Music is a vital part of the Primary Curriculum. We strive to provide all children with opportunities to listen and respond to different types of music, create and compose music of their own and perform to their peers and other audiences.
Our curriculum aims to ensure that children have an understanding of how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
Across both key stages children will have the opportunity to sing and use instruments, both tuned and untuned. In Year 3 every child is taught Ukelele as part of their music lessons and in Year 5 each child takes part in Steel pan drum lessons as part of their curriculum.
There are a wide variety of music activities happening weekly in school. Our peripatetic instrumental lessons are very popular with over 20 children having tuition each week by teachers from the Knowsley Music Hub. In addition to this, we have additional external providers teaching Ukelele and Electric Guitar which are both very popular with over 40 children learning these instruments! Furthermore, Infant choir runs each Tuesday after school and Junior choir each Thursday. New members are always welcome!
Our choirs have lots of opportunities to perform over the year. We regularly visit local care homes to sing and Christmas time always brings performances in our local churches. We have also taken part in the Young Voices concert series at the Manchester Arena. We strive to work towards performances as frequently as possible.
For the last few years we have put on a musical production each summer. We have recently performed Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat and Oliver! This has been a fabulous way to end our musical year and brings children from across the school together as performers.
